50 Sports Directors complete course at World Cycling Centre Fifty Sports Directors from 26 cycling teams have completed the course for Sports Directors at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland, over the last two weeks. Last week, 24 Sports Directors attended the week-long course in English, while another 26 underwent the same training in French this week. This year, the course welcomed its first female candidate, a very positive development in a traditionally male-dominated sector. Subjects covered during the course include the role of the Sports Director, leadership and communication, material and technology, equipment approval procedures and health & anti-doping. Each course finishes with an exam, the results of which the candidates receive at a later date. Introduced in 2009, the course will eventually be obligatory for all Sport Directors. Twenty-six Sports Directors attended the first course in 2009, and another 25 obtained their diplomas last year. WCC Director Mr Frédéric Magné said he was delighted to have welcomed so many Sports Directors in 2011: “This training course has given Sports Directors the opportunity to build on their expertise and share their wide experience in a constructive manner. Following the success of this UCI-WCC course, we have decided to organise four such courses in 2012.” Photo: Sports Directors take a break from study at the World Cycling Centre last week.
